Why am I doing a favorite Taylor Swift song list? The answer is quite simple.
It’s for my girl.
I was always a casual Taylor Swift fan. I enjoyed her songs, but I was never a Swiftie by any means. However, my daughter became one about six or seven years ago. For a while, it was a joke in our household, but something happened to change all of that for me, and it was the Eras Tour. I always promised her I would take her to a Taylor Swift concert and I was determined to procure tickets. It took me over seven hours (even with a presale code) and there was a tremendous amount of profanity spewed from my mouth, but I was able to score three tickets.
Yes, we dragged my husband with us. Shout out to Mr. B for coming with a torn meniscus!
I decided if I was going to go then I would have to brush up on my Taylor Swift songs, so I could at least be able to sing along with the crowd. My journey down the rabbit hole took me to places I had never truly been before…well, aside from my obsession with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana back in the early nineties. I discovered not just a talented singer who wrote catchy tunes, but an incredible songwriter whose words spoke to me as deeply as some of my favorite authors.
This experience also had another amazing effect and it was a deeper bond with my teenage daughter. When my twin boys were in high school, we bonded over comic books, and I always say I probably know more about comics than most women my age. Teenagers are an alien breed and one does what one must to maintain any sort of shared interest during this perilous time. Not only was this an opening to conversations but it also led to other talks about life in general which, as any parent knows, can be difficult when they reach the teen years.
As I began to listen to more of Taylor Swift, I established that same connection with my daughter. I also became entranced with this remarkable woman who my daughter admired. By the time April of last year came around, I was one hundred percent a Swiftie. The concert itself was incredible. Even if I wasn’t a fan, I would have been impressed, but the experience was incredible. I have never felt more safe amongst seventy thousand people. The vibe was pure joy and friendliness. It was also filled with love and my daughter and I both had tears in our eyes during several moments as we sang, or screamed, along to every single song.
Taylor Swift will probably never read this, but I am lucky to have a platform to say to her, however remote the possibility might be, a giant thank you. Not only did you bring my daughter and I closer together, but you have also inspired me as a writer.
So… let’s get into it.
Our top three songs from each album and an honorable mention as well.
We’ll see if we have any of the same!
