Wings of The Fallen Blurb

Just a quick post today. I am in the middle of formatting Wings of The Fallen and I thought I would share with you the blurb!

Official Blurb:

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. – Socrates

Sloane Bowman has left everything she has ever known behind. After her mother and father were both killed in a mysterious accident, she flees her home, searching for peace in her grief-stricken state of mind and shattered soul. Almost immediately, she encounters two strangers who point her in the direction of Charleston, SC.

The historic city intrigues her, but before she can catch her breath, a long-forgotten person from the past reveals himself to her and her life is turned even more upside down. Sloane finds herself plunged into a world of incredible myths and ancient legends. A world she had only ever read about in books was now her reality.

The truth about who her parents were in a former life and what this means for herself, overwhelms and distresses her at first, but she conquers those fears and she must not only accept her lineage, but also her fate.

Her newfound family provides her with the help and support she desperately needs, but a devastatingly handsome and dangerous vampire challenges her at every turn. Sloane discovers not only who she is meant to be, but also the true meaning of trust and faith as she navigates down this treacherous new path.

Weekly Update & Random Musings

Image result for update

I thought I would take a moment to update everyone on what was happening here at Shannon Barczak Books.

Wings of The Fallen is currently getting ready for the final edit before formatting. It’s an exhausting, yet daunting undertaking, but I am ready for this new book to be released on May 1, 2018.

I also can announce the formal title of the series…

The Huntress Chronicles Part I

Yes, The Huntress Chronicles will have three parts, but I have another announcement…

This is the start of a nine book arc.

Yup, NINE books.

Image result for you cray cray

I know. Nine books and I am just hoping that you enjoy this journey I am going to take you on.

Book Two of the series, Wings of The Brave is finished and I am just adding the last touches to my first edits before sending it off into the red pen realm of my editor.

Wings of The Brave has a tentative release date of July 1, 2018.

The third book in the series… Wings of The Warrior has already been written and planned out in my head. I just need to do a quick outline and get started on the small task of transferring the story from brain to computer.

The book cover will be revealed shortly and I will release the blurb for book one next week.

What else….?

I am also editing and adding my own touches to the first ensemble comic book novel by SeppinRek.  As some of you are aware, my sons own a fledgling comic book novel company and I contributed to their first phase of their new series.

We have been working on and discussing this next book for quite some time. It has been a labor of love for us all and I am beyond proud, and excited, to even witness this amazing collaboration, much less be a part of it.

It’s a ridiculously busy time. The boys are about to enter their final weeks of their first year at college and the stress level over exams are at their peak.

(EEK)

And my daughter is also entering a new phase as she graduates elementary school and goes on to middle school in a little over a month.

(Double EEK)

I think the reason I decided to take on the humongous task of a nine book series is because I have a burning desire to keep myself busy within the world of fantasy,

The real world is too much to contemplate and move about in at the moment.

So…anyway…LOL.

Next week, book cover reveals and the blurb for the first novel. I cannot wait for you all to read this book. I am obsessed with the characters and this series as a whole.

I just hope you will be as well!

Wings of The Fallen Release Date

I am excited to announce that the Wings of The Fallen will be released on May 1, 2018!

I chose that particular date because it is one of my favorite days of the year. It was the day my twin boys were born and so it seems only fitting for the first book of my new series to be released into this world.

Everyone keeps asking me what the book is about and I’ve been a bit secretive, probably more so than any other book I’ve written. I think it’s because this story went through several different changes before I got it just right.

I will say right now that it is set in my adopted home town of Charleston, SC.

Charleston is a beautiful city. It is a thriving town filled with stunning architecture, rich history, and interesting people. The narrow streets and alleyways are filled with the secrets. The indigenous palmetto trees line the sidewalks and the eerily stunning oaks are still scattered throughout the city’s landscape.

But in my story, it’s what lies beneath that is more fascinating and dangerous.

It is also a story which (once again) features heavily on Greek Mythology.

Okay…maybe just one more hint.

I can’t wait for you to meet the new characters and I hope you come to love them as much as I have over these last few months. I am already knee-deep into the second book in the series and I do have a sneak peek at the cover.

Wings of The Brave!

Before you ask, yes there is a name for the series and no, I am not announcing it just yet because it might reveal too much of the story.

Be sure to check back soon for the Wings of The Fallen book blurb!

Introducing Wings of The Fallen Book Cover

I am so excited to announce that the rough draft for my new book, Wings of The Fallen, is done!

Yes, it took me a bit to finish the book and I recently wrote about my struggles with writer’s block, but I persevered and won.

I recently described my journey to a friend and the only analogy I could think of using was in terms of a relationship.

You see, it started off great. We had a few dates, got to know each other a bit, and then for some inexplicable reason, things cooled off. A few months went by, we reconnected, and fell madly, deeply in love.

Over a two-week time period, I became completely obsessed with my story.  I could barely carry on a conversation with anyone and every song I heard pertained to my book in one way or another. I ate, slept, and breathed this book.

It was like heaven to feel that way again.

I am now starting the dreaded edit and revision nightmare that all of us authors have to go through, but as always, I am happy to start.

By the end, I will be frustrated, tired, and most likely crying.

But that’s the life we chose, right?!

I am beyond proud and thrilled to share my new book cover with you. My son, Ethan, of SeppinRek Entertainment, hated my original cover, so he made a new one, and absolutely nailed it!

It fits perfectly with my story.

And before you ask…yes, it will be the first book in my new series.

I haven’t decided on what to name it as of yet, but I have narrowed it down to a few choices. I will be revealing the book blurb and possibly, maybe, the first chapter very soon!

It’s Not Writer’s Block…I Swear

Concrete Wall, Wall, Concrete, Background, Texture

It’s not Writer’s Block.

It’s not.

I swear it isn’t.

I was doing so good writing The Wings of The Fallen. I was in a groove and then the holidays came.

I thought to myself that after the holiday season was over then maybe I would get back on my writing horse, but nope. That did not happen.

It’s a curious thing really. I’ve never had any problems writing. The only time I had to stop was when I injured my neck and shoulder from writing too much.

So, what’s a girl to do?

Well, I started yoga and I have to say, I really enjoy it. Then, I decided to start meditating before yoga, just for a few minutes to loosen myself up before the strenuous stretching.

I know what people who know me well are thinking, but today I had a breakthrough.

I realized the story didn’t lose me. I lost the story. I plunged into writing without doing any outlines or any direction because I thought I had a good idea on where and how the story would go, but what I didn’t take into account was that, the story was there, but I just couldn’t see it yet.

I preach all the time about being prepared before writing, but this time for some reason I didn’t do that and now I am in a whirlpool of confusion. Where do I go? How do I begin again?

That’s when it hit me. Hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn’t exactly like my story or where it was going. I was having a hard time connecting to my main character and I wasn’t sure if I even cared enough to write about her.

Yes, I said it. I admit it.

But, and there’s always a but, something else came creeping into my twisted, sick writer’s mind and now I know why. I don’t want her to be the hero who slays the bad guy and rides off into the sunset with the so-called good guy. I want her to have conflict and I want her to be fierce, but insecure. I want her to make mistakes and I want her to be real.

I also have this driving force in me to do Charleston proud. I love my adopted city. It’s beautiful. Yes, it has issues like any city, but it’s my home.

So, is there such thing as a writer’s block? Yes, there is. I never gave into that myth before, but now I am a believer. What writer’s don’t tell you or admit though is that it’s not so much as a block but a lack of focus and love for their story.

We start on the path and sometimes we lose our way. We might go down some pretty shady areas. We will face what seems like insurmountable obstacles, but when we realize that our story needs to be told, we punch through those walls and get back to work. It’s a need inside of us that cannot be explained. It’s a voice or several voices that need to be heard.

Let the tiredness begin. Bring on the shoulder and neck strain because I have a story to write. It may not be the one I started, but by the time it is finished, it will be one that I love.

The Struggle has been real…

This is me. Standing on a dock, staring out at fog, and begging for it to make sense.

At least that was me…now, the fog has been lifted.

I’ve been feeling conflicted for several months now. I’ve been trying to help my boys get their company started and I also found a newfound passion for writing, and creating with them, comic book characters.

I enjoy it. It’s been a great experience. I also wrote and published The Wicked Thorn. It was a book that I felt very strongly about writing and I am so glad that I did. I also wrote my first comic book novel which just came out titled Wave.

But something has been missing. I’ve tried to get started on the second book, The Wicked Shadow, but it hit me like a ton of bricks the other night why I’ve been dragging my feet.

It’s not my book to write.

So, in a SeppinRek staff meeting consisting of me and my sons, I gave them Thorn and Jasper and to use these characters as they see fit. I also told my son Wyatt, who is a very talented writer, that he needs to write Jasper’s story since he was the one who has been excited for him since day one.

I love writing and being involved in this comic book world, but I also love writing my paranormal romance. I miss it and I have decided to keep them both separate. I’ve had a story outlined for quite some time now and I have to write it.

I’m going back to my roots in a way and the setting is in my adopted hometown of Charleston, SC. There is so much rich history here and the hauntingly beautiful area is going to be a perfect backdrop for a tale that is going to be quite epic.

Wings of The Fallen is going to combine myth and legend, good vs. evil. Mythology and ghost stories are going to intertwine to make (I hope) an unforgettable tale of discovery, adventure, and most importantly, love.

I know that I have been M.I. A. and I apologize to my fans, but I needed this time to explore other creative avenues. I’m glad I did because now I have a clearer vision of who I am and what I want to do.

I’m excited to introduce you to my new heroine and I cannot wait until you meet another character. I’m not sure if there has ever been one like him before, certainly not what being he is (sorry, not going to spoil it yet), but that’s all I can say right now.

It’s nice to be back and I look forward to keeping you updated on a more regular basis.

~Shannon
