I am very thrilled to announce that Surrendered Moon is released and available for digital download!

Writing a six book series was quite a challenge for me. The whole process took longer than I thought, but I am pleased with the end result. It’s going to be hard to close the book on this series. I’ve been with these characters and getting to know them for well over a year now, but alas, it is time to say goodbye.

I hope that you enjoy the final installment in The Hidden Realm Series and I thank you for your continued support.

Summer Update

dandelion-111853_1280

It’s summer! The air is thick and the vegetation is lush down here in the heart of Dixie. Summer is the time when I miss my home state of Maine the most. I think of the warm, picturesque scenery almost every time I step outside in the saturating, oppressive muggy heat of South Carolina.

I miss the cooling waters of my lake and hiking in the shadows of mountains for a refreshing nature walk. I think of the ice cream stands that are only open in the summer and almost every town has one where all the locals flock to as the temperatures rise.

I no longer see fresh produce stands on the side of the road and I am forced to contend with the overcrowded farmers’ market on Saturdays. I remember when I was a kid, we used to make the trek a few miles down the road at least twice a week to a rustic stand where the vegetables and fresh corn were displayed neatly. There was never anyone manning the stand. There was just an old tin box where you left your money for your purchases. No one ever thought to leave any less than you owed or take any more than you paid for.

In a perfect world, I would spend my summers in Maine and leave before the weather cooled to come back to South Carolina, but right now I am content that I at least have a nice, big pool in my backyard to enjoy.

I am beyond happy to say that I have finished the final book in The Hidden Realm Series.  This book was a bit of a struggle for me. I’m not sure if it’s because I was exhausted or if it’s because I was sad to say goodbye to these characters that have been a part of me for a while now.

Surrendered Moon picks right up where Awakened Moon left off and I have to say that I laughed, and cried, as I wrote the rough draft. Maximus and Marianna were a fun couple to create. Yes, Maximus is scarred by his two hundred years of torture, but Marianna almost distracts him with her bright outlook and bossy ways.

I’m hoping to release the book by the end of July and then I am going to start on a project that is…a bit different. I think it’s either going to crash and burn, or be something really special.

More on that later…

For now, I hope that you all take time to enjoy these lazy days of summer. This is one of my favorite passages about this time of year.

“Spring flew swiftly by, and summer came; and if the village had been beautiful at first, it was now in the full glow and luxuriance of its richness. The great trees, which had looked shrunken and bare in the earlier months, had now burst into strong life and health; and stretching forth their green arms over the thirsty ground, converted open and naked spots into choice nooks, where was a deep and pleasant shade from which to look upon the wide prospect, steeped in sunshine, which lay stretched out beyond. The earth had donned her mantle of brightest green; and shed her richest perfumes abroad. It was the prime and vigour of the year; all things were glad and flourishing.”
—Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist

Awakened Moon is Released!

It’s finally here! I feel like this book was a long time in coming. After taking almost four months off, getting back into the writing groove was tough, but the wait as it was being uploaded onto KDP felt like a full year.

This was quite an interesting story for me to write. Marianna is so different from any character I have ever written. She is prim and proper, but also sweet and kind.

Maximus is somewhat mercurial and I feel like it is going to take a bit for the reader to really get a read on both of them. I also added a twist at the end so what you thought you knew is completely the opposite.

The whole cast of characters are back and while I always enjoy writing my favorites, it was hard to make everyone blend together cohesively. I must say that creating a six book series is a huge challenge and I’m not sure if I will be attempting that again anytime soon!

Surrendered Moon is up next and I have already outlined the final book in The Hidden Realm Series. I’m excited to plunge deeper into Maximus and Marianna’s love, as well as, wrap the series up to a final conclusion.

I hope you all enjoy Awakened Moon. I realize that it took a while for it to be released and I want to thank you for your patience and unwavering support.

Official Blurb

Lady Marianna of Fairyland is a shining example of dignity and decorum. Orphaned when she was a small child, Marianna was raised by the former Queen, and brought up with her cousin King Killian.
Her betrothal to the King of the Werewolves was well regarded as a fine match and made when she was just five years of age, but she remembers him as the young king she fell in love with on a starlit night when she was sixteen. The next morning, Maximus disappeared, and no one knew that he had been kidnapped by his evil uncle Bernard.

Two hundred years later, Maximus has returned from his torturous imprisonment after Killian and Wick rescue him, and dispense of Bernard. Maximus finally comes to Fairyland so he can claim his bride to be.

The only problem is that Lady Marianna is not the idealistic young girl she used to be and Maximus is also plagued with his own demons.

Can they reclaim what once was and awaken their long lost dreams or will another evil tear them apart?

Journey back to The Hidden Realm Series as Marianna and Maximus engage in a battle of wits and fight for love!

Editing, Writing, and More

I finished writing Awakened Moon and now I am stranded in no man’s land. The manuscript is off to my editor and the question of do I start the next novel begins to form in my mind.

The last book in The Hidden Realm Series is practically written. The plot, notes, and outline are firmly filed in my scattered brain and all I have to do is type out the words.

I have done the whole writing a new book while editing my current book at the same time and it’s not easy. I do however have a new found drive within me to wrap this series up and I am once again going to embark on the grueling path.

I also have another secret.

As many of you know, I hate to talk about a new project before I even start writing, but I am way too excited not to share some insight into my thought process. I had an idea for a contemporary novel. I really wanted to provide my readers with a more realistic take on the erotic, BDSM culture that has dominated the virtual shelves.

I suppose I wanted to try my hand at it because some of them are fairly ridiculous and I wanted to bring things down to my snarky level.

But then something changed. An idea that hit me like a ton of bricks and now I can’t stop thinking about it.

I guess it’s only natural. I live with two comic book geeks ( http://www.seppinrek.com ). It was inevitable that I would create my own characters and stories that mirror that genre.

Before you get too nervous or worry about my state of mind, I want to be clear that I am not writing a comic book.

I am however going to create my own vigilante.

Yup, I am going to do a realistic take on Batman.

I am a little nervous that my loyal readers who have embraced my paranormal romance books will not be happy, but in a way it is going to be a fantasy.

It’s also going to be darker and grittier than anything I have ever done. I still will inject humor into the story, but this is definitely out of my comfort zone and I kind of like that. The idea of doing something different that will challenge me makes me a tad giddy. I also believe that, at this point in my writing career, it is a perfect time for me to branch out a bit.

But before I start that journey I have to finish The Hidden Realm Series.

Awakened Moon has a tentative release date of April 28, 2016. I’ll have a firmer date when I get it back from the editor. I would like to shoot for late June to release Surrendered Moon, but we’ll play that by ear for now.’

I also have a children’s chapter book that I am working on with my daughter that will be out this summer as well. Oh, yeah, and helping my boys with their first graphic novel, as well as touring colleges for them and starting the process of loans, scholarships and senior year events.

Yes, it is a lot going on, but I am looking forward to this next year. There are going to be many changes and I might have to do a stint at the loony bin, I mean spa retreat, but I think it’s going to be entertaining to say the least.

No one has ever accused me of being boring, so I have that going for me.

Coming Out of The Dark…

pen, ink, notepad, notebook, writing, letters, business

It’s funny. I actually sat here for five minutes trying to think of a title for this blog post. It feels foreign almost to be back on my blog again. I’ve been taking a bit of time off, but it’s only when I saw my last blog post was November 14, 2015 did I realize just how much time had gone by.

I had an email from a reader asking me what was up and where I’ve been. They also begged me to release Awakened Moon, book five in The Hidden Realm Series. I guess I didn’t take into account that there are actually people out there who want to read the stories I write and look forward to my next release. I suppose I’m still in the ‘Aw shucks’ phase.

So where have I been and what have I been doing?

Well, the simple answer is that I’ve been taking a much deserved break.

Enchanting Wick and Captivating Wick took a lot out of me to write. I was obsessed with Gracie and Wick’s story. I think I threw myself into them so much because I wanted to ignore what was going on around me. My father’s battle with cancer has been emotionally draining on all of us, especially him, and when his last surgery in late October was done, I was completely and utterly drained.

So, I slept. I’ve been helping my twin boys get their website, http://www.seppinrek.com , up and running. I had a wonderful holiday season, helped my parents move into a smaller more manageable house, and simply enjoyed giving my brain a rest.

But the time for me to start writing again is upon me and my refreshed spirit.

I finally have that feeling again. The insatiable need to put my words down and escape once again into a fantastical story. I must confess that I am a bit nervous to write Maximus and Marianna’s story.

I mean…she’s a virgin. If you’ve read my books you know that I have never gone down that path before.

Maximus is also complicated in a strong silent type way. He was held prisoner for two hundred years so obviously that is going to leave a mark.

And then I have to tie up all six books in a lovely little bow.

No problem.

I’m up for the challenge and I just want to thank you all for being patient with me. I don’t believe in writer’s block. I think if you’re a writer then you always have something to write about, even if it is a paragraph. I do think though that creative people sometimes need to chill out and rest their constantly buzzing brains from time to time. I was reading on a writer’s group forum that I belong to all these over achievers who claim they write three or four books at a time and never need a break.

Okay. More power to you, but that doesn’t make you a better writer. I was on the seven books in a year roller coaster and I can tell you that I will never do that again. I have finally managed to come to the conclusion that what makes me a better writer is to go back to why I wanted to write a book in the first place.

I just wanted to read the stories that were in my head. Not for anyone else, but for me and if it takes a month, three months, or six then so be it. I’m not pushing myself or my body to utter exhaustion to prove a point and keep up with the other self-published authors. Interestingly enough, my four month absence has done nothing to dispel book sales since I’m selling books every day and that’s when it hit me.

A book is only as good as its writer and a writer is only as good as their powerful minds. When the mind becomes overwhelmed and overworked, the brain and body shut down, and nothing good can come from that.

Monday morning will be interesting, but I have faith in myself and I’m glad that there are still some out there that do as well.

Stay tuned…

Yes, it’s here! I am very happy to announce that Captivating Wick is available for download.

I suppose I’m a little sad since I love these two characters so much, but I can assure everyone that they will be popping up from time to time in the last two books of The Hidden Realm Series!

Happy reading!

Captivating Wick Release Date & Info

Life is funny, isn’t it? I’m sitting here and I had to pause for a second because I cannot believe I am already writing out this blog post. I literally just published Enchanting Wick a few weeks ago and now, here I am again, ready to publish another book.

I suppose the only explanation I have is that I absolutely loved creating, and writing, Wick and Gracie’s story. These two characters have enchanted me since I started dreaming up The Hidden Realm Series. I guess, in some ways, my obsession and love for them propelled me to work harder than I ever have before.

Captivating Wick is a story about love and redemption. It is also about discovering the true meaning of loving someone, warts and all. Wick is not a typical storybook character. He’s an anti-hero at best. He is not ashamed of his past, nor does he hesitate to kill anyone who stands in his way or threatens those he cares about. He is somewhat mentally unstable and I did not want to shy away from that element.

The simple fact is, most male characters you read about today are pretty messed up, but Wick doesn’t use that as an excuse. He takes full responsibility for his actions and he wears his insanity proudly on his sleeve ( as noted by Gracie). His past does not dictate his future. He does not use the excuse of being domineering as his way to control his environment, nor does he participate in any showman like sexual deviant games.

He is, down deep, a lost little boy, who craves love and he finds that unconditional love with Gracie.

In Captivating Wick, Gracie has other issues to worry about besides Wick. She has something infinitely more important to focus her attention on and it was interesting to weave a tale of two people navigating this tricky situation.

Yes, there is one huge bombshell revealed at the climax and it is an aspect of the story that I have been working on since day one. I just wasn’t quite sure when I was going to incorporate it in the six book series. I can also tell you that Maximus does indeed make a quick appearance towards the end and I am now itching to write his and Marianna’s tale.

The release date for Captivating Wick is November 17, 2015 and I am pleased as punch to unveil the blurb, and the book trailer.
