Upcoming Books & Update

Where have you been?”

“What have you been doing?

Well, let me tell you…

Oh…and one more thing I have to share…

Yes, two new books are coming!

I suppose I should explain a bit of the backstory on these two stories. Last year, my sons, who own SeppinRek, asked me to write a book for one of their characters. Not only did I come up with a story for the Silver Shadow, but I also created an entirely new character and amazing new world for their comic book novel series.

And so The Lost Elf was born.

They are not full length novels. They are both short stories (about 150 pages). They are connected and I have to say, I had so much fun writing them.

I fully believe, with all my heart, that my readers will enjoy them. Are there some connections to previous novels? Yup, but I still don’t think you have to read all of the SeppinRek titles to enjoy these two books, especially The Lost Elf.

I will let you all know when they are both released and I sincerely hope you will give them a shot!

They are a bit cleaner than what I normally write. A few curse words, some violence (okay, a lot with Silver Shadow-what he does to a would be rapist will make any woman cheer and every man cringe), and sadly, I was given the rule of no sex-insert sad emoji- but I think the stories are rich enough in detail to make up for that.

What else is going on?

I am currently in the tedious process of reformatting most of my older books and I am also in the process of redesigning my website, and older book covers.

I know what some of you are thinking. I have received a few emails asking me when Rafe’s story is going to be available. I realize the charming alcohol swilling vampire is everyone’s favorite and yes, I agree his story needs to be told.

It will and soon, I promise. I have already begun writing Hattie’s backstory in my head and I also have my chapter outlines mostly done.

Stay Tuned!

January Blog Post

January, Calendar, Month, Year, Day, Date, Week

Happy New Year!

I just realized that we are already halfway through the first month of the year. I vowed that I would post more on my blog this year and I am going to keep that promise!

So, what’s been going on at Shannon Barczak Books?

Well, quite a bit actually.

I am so excited to share with you that I am writing my second short novel for my sons’ comic book company, SeppinRek, and boy, have they entrusted me to not only introduce a new character, but an awesome story. I really think that readers of my work will enjoy the book because it focuses on magic.

Yes, I get to introduce magic into their comic universe and I am running with it. The character itself is definitely a bit dark (Wait until you read what I did to be a would-be rapist…my boys cringed) and I have embraced this vigilante with open arms. I love writing him, but what I am really enjoying is twisting the tale towards magic…and of course, a great love…who just happens to be a powerful, beautiful Elf.

Yup, right in my wheelhouse.

I am going to dive into her story right after and I am thrilled to be doing a project that is a bit different. It’s also been fun which I desperately needed after writing Wings of The Warrior. That book put me through the emotional wringer and I needed a break.

The next series I am going to be writing, featuring everyone’s favorite alcohol swilling vampire Rafe, will be Seeds of the Damned. The book is in development and I have chapter outlines started for the story. I have decided to make Hattie’s quest for her freedom quite a trial, but it should be fun and I can’t wait to share more details with you in the future.

I also have new book covers I want to help design for my earlier books and I also want to reformat them, so…yeah, it’s going to be a busy year. I want to thank those that have reached out to me on Facebook, Twitter and email. You’re kind support means the world to me.

Wings of The Warrior Release Date

WoW

It feels like forever but I am happy to announce that the third book in The Huntress Chronicles, Wings of The Warrior, will be released on December 20, 2018!

I am polishing up the final edits right now and I must admit this book was extremely emotional for me to write. I don’t want to delve into the story too much right now but it definitely pushed me to the limits. I think as a writer, we inevitably, get wrapped up in our character’s story. Their thoughts and feelings are intertwined with our own and when you are writing violence and insanity, it can get quite overwhelming.

I cannot wait for you to read the conclusion of Sloane’s and Cristiano’s story. I can tell you though they will be back in the next series.

That’s all the hints I’m giving to you right now!

Weekly Update & Random Musings

Image result for update

I thought I would take a moment to update everyone on what was happening here at Shannon Barczak Books.

Wings of The Fallen is currently getting ready for the final edit before formatting. It’s an exhausting, yet daunting undertaking, but I am ready for this new book to be released on May 1, 2018.

I also can announce the formal title of the series…

The Huntress Chronicles Part I

Yes, The Huntress Chronicles will have three parts, but I have another announcement…

This is the start of a nine book arc.

Yup, NINE books.

Image result for you cray cray

I know. Nine books and I am just hoping that you enjoy this journey I am going to take you on.

Book Two of the series, Wings of The Brave is finished and I am just adding the last touches to my first edits before sending it off into the red pen realm of my editor.

Wings of The Brave has a tentative release date of July 1, 2018.

The third book in the series… Wings of The Warrior has already been written and planned out in my head. I just need to do a quick outline and get started on the small task of transferring the story from brain to computer.

The book cover will be revealed shortly and I will release the blurb for book one next week.

What else….?

I am also editing and adding my own touches to the first ensemble comic book novel by SeppinRek.  As some of you are aware, my sons own a fledgling comic book novel company and I contributed to their first phase of their new series.

We have been working on and discussing this next book for quite some time. It has been a labor of love for us all and I am beyond proud, and excited, to even witness this amazing collaboration, much less be a part of it.

It’s a ridiculously busy time. The boys are about to enter their final weeks of their first year at college and the stress level over exams are at their peak.

(EEK)

And my daughter is also entering a new phase as she graduates elementary school and goes on to middle school in a little over a month.

(Double EEK)

I think the reason I decided to take on the humongous task of a nine book series is because I have a burning desire to keep myself busy within the world of fantasy,

The real world is too much to contemplate and move about in at the moment.

So…anyway…LOL.

Next week, book cover reveals and the blurb for the first novel. I cannot wait for you all to read this book. I am obsessed with the characters and this series as a whole.

I just hope you will be as well!

Wings of The Fallen Release Date

I am excited to announce that the Wings of The Fallen will be released on May 1, 2018!

I chose that particular date because it is one of my favorite days of the year. It was the day my twin boys were born and so it seems only fitting for the first book of my new series to be released into this world.

Everyone keeps asking me what the book is about and I’ve been a bit secretive, probably more so than any other book I’ve written. I think it’s because this story went through several different changes before I got it just right.

I will say right now that it is set in my adopted home town of Charleston, SC.

Charleston is a beautiful city. It is a thriving town filled with stunning architecture, rich history, and interesting people. The narrow streets and alleyways are filled with the secrets. The indigenous palmetto trees line the sidewalks and the eerily stunning oaks are still scattered throughout the city’s landscape.

But in my story, it’s what lies beneath that is more fascinating and dangerous.

It is also a story which (once again) features heavily on Greek Mythology.

Okay…maybe just one more hint.

I can’t wait for you to meet the new characters and I hope you come to love them as much as I have over these last few months. I am already knee-deep into the second book in the series and I do have a sneak peek at the cover.

Wings of The Brave!

Before you ask, yes there is a name for the series and no, I am not announcing it just yet because it might reveal too much of the story.

Be sure to check back soon for the Wings of The Fallen book blurb!

Monthly Writing Update

f9bbc9bcfe7c0461f6b8878c59a0b15c

Yes, it’s been forever since I have written. I have no excuses except that I have been flat out busy with life. I have so much coming up in the coming months, both personal and professional, that to sit down and compose a blog post has been difficult.

So, what’s been going on…

I have been taking a break from my own writing to help my sons get their comic book novel career off the ground. The three of us have been collaborating on everything from content to book cover design. Their first book, Darq was released a month ago and I couldn’t be more proud.

Their next book, Rexwind, is coming out soon and they already have three, yes three books, in the fryer so to speak.

I can also announce that they have asked me to write one of their characters and I am excited, nervous, and slightly anxious. I have never written a character before that wasn’t my own creation, nor have I ever had to follow a certain storyline or writing style.

Apparently I need to keep it at around 100 pages, so this is going to be interesting.

Once I get that written, I am going to start on my next book, and I am literally bouncing up and down in my chair to write Jasper. You got to meet him in The Wicked Thorn and I can tell you that his story is extremely different from anything I have ever done.

I have another announcement to make and that is, I will be working on a second cookbook! This past winter was my first foray into the football pool world and every Sunday, Red Zone was on the t.v. and I was in the kitchen making football snacks. When Superbowl came around, my family voted on their top ten and I now have an abundance of appetizer recipes floating around that I want to share with everyone.

Oh and my boys are going to be starting college this fall…needless to say, it is going to be busy around the Barczak household.

I am also going to to be doing a huge book promotion for all of my books, so keep an eye out for that!

Much love~

Shannon

Writing a Stand Alone Novel vs. a Series

typewriter-1245894_1280

“Learning never exhausts the mind.” -Leonardo da Vinci

I have written thirteen books and one cookbook.

Not bad, right?

Interestingly enough though, The Wicked Thorn is proving to be quite a challenge and also a great joy.

It truly feels like I am starting over again in many ways. I am not writing a series, where I can tease certain things, and slowly reveal major revelations over three, four or six books. No, I have just one shot to make sure everything I want to say and write is wrapped up in a large, shiny, package.

Writing a stand alone novel is difficult. I have always had the opportunity to gradually introduce my characters and plot, but this is quite different. I keep second guessing myself on certain scenes, like whether or not this should go in or that should be introduced. It is simply something I have never had to ponder over before and it’s definitely playing with my head a bit.

I enjoy fast paced novels and I always have tried to stick to that preference when I write, but this book is not a story I can rush. I find that I enjoy writing more in depth scenes and dialogue (Although honestly dialogue has never been a problem for me).

I am also tackling my nemesis…the action scene.

Where it was once a groan inducing part of my job and I just have to get this over with, I now am taking my time because it is such a huge part of the story. I have to admit that I have been reading comics and graphic novels to get a feel for the genre. Thankfully my boys have an endless supply of material and knowledge.

I also have to keep repeating my mantra that you must always write for yourself and not for profit, or commercial glory. I have no idea if anyone is going to want to read about a vigilante and how he tries to, not only save his city from crime, but also as he attempts to have a relationship.

My heroine is different as well. She is young and a tad naive, but I am slowly getting to know her steel spine as I write her character. How is she going to handle not only falling in love for the first time, but also finding out her new love lied to her and is a vigilante?

And I have to start and finish their story in one novel.

I’m almost halfway through writing the book and I’m beginning to feel more comfortable, and more confident, but self-doubt can be hard to overcome.

This is a learning experience for me and I have to say that I am loving every minute of it! I will talk more about this book and the others that are going to follow, the further I go along.

I hope and pray that my loyal readers are ready for this change because I know that I am embracing this whole new and exciting chapter!
